1:1Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon our beloved friend, and fellow laborer,Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellowlabourer,
1:2to our beloved Apphia, Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church in your house:And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house:
1:3Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1:4I thank my God, making mention of you always in my prayers,I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,
1:5hearing of your love and faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints,Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints;
1:6that the sharing of your faith may become effectual by acknowledging every good thing that is in you in Christ Jesus.That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.
1:7Because, we have great joy and consolation in your love, because, the hearts of the saints have been refreshed by you, brother.For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.
1:8Therefore, although I could be very bold in Christ to command you that which is appropriate,Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient,
1:9yet for love's sake I rather make request of you, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ:Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.
1:10I make request of you for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten while in my chains,I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:
1:11who was formerly unprofitable to you, but is now profitable to you and to me.Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:
1:12Whom I have sent again. Therefore you receive him, that is, my own heart,Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels:
1:13whom I would have kept with me, that in your position, he might have ministered to me in the chains of the gospel.Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel:
1:14But I did not want to do anything without your consent, that your goodness might not be of obligation, but voluntary.But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.
1:15Because, perhaps he departed for a season for this reason, that you might receive him forever,For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever;
1:16not now as a servant, but more than a servant, a beloved brother, especially to me but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord?Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?
1:17If then you count me as a partner, receive him as you would me.If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.
1:18If he has wronged you, or owes you anything, put that on my account.If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account;
1:19I Paul have written this with my own hand, I will repay it, not to mention to you how you also owe to me even your own lives.I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides.
1:20Yes, brother, let me have joy from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in the Lord.Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord.
1:21Having confidence in your obedience, I wrote to you, knowing that you will also do even more than I say.Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.
1:22But, meanwhile, prepare for me a guest room also, because I trust that through the prayers of you all I shall be given to you all.But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.
1:23Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, greets you,There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus;
1:24also Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow laborers.Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers.
1:25The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. <<Written from Rome to Philemon, by Onesimus a servant.>>
