22:1And Jesus responded and spoke to them again by parables and said:
22:2"The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son,"
22:3and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they would not come."
22:4Again, he sent out other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are invited, "Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fatted cattle are slaughtered, and all things are ready. Come to the marriage."'
22:5But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his business."
22:6And the rest took his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them."
22:7But when the king heard about it, he was very angry. And he sent out his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city."
22:8Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy."
22:9Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you can find, invite to the marriage.'"
22:10So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together everyone they could find, both bad and good. And the wedding was filled with guests."
22:11"But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have a wedding garment on."
22:12And he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?' And he was speechless."
22:13Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and throw him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'"
22:14"Because, many are called, but few are chosen."
22:15Then the Pharisees went, and plotted how they might entangle Him in His speech.
22:16And they sent out to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You gratify anyone, because You do not regard the person of men.
22:17Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?"
22:18But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, "Why do you test Me, you hypocrites?"
22:19Show Me the tax money." So they gave a denarius to Him.
22:20And He said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?"
22:21They said to Him, "Caesar's." Then He said to them, "Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
22:22When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left Him and went their way.
22:23The same day the Sadducees who say that there is no resurrection, came to Him and asked Him,
22:24saying: "Teacher, Moses said, that if a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up offspring for his brother.
22:25Now there were with us seven brothers. So the first died after he had married a wife, and having no offspring, left his wife to his brother.
22:26Likewise the second also, and the third, until the seventh.
22:27Then last of all the woman died also.
22:28Therefore in the resurrection, whose wife of the seven shall she be, because they all had her?"
22:29Jesus answered and said to them, "You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God."
22:30Because, in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven."
22:31But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying,"
22:32'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living."
22:33And when the crowds heard this, they were astonished at His doctrine.
22:34But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they were gathered together.
22:35Then one of them, who was a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying,
22:36"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?"
22:37Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.'"
22:38This is the first and great commandment."
22:39And the second is like it, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'"
22:40On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."
22:41While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
22:42saying, "What do you think of Christ? Whose Son is He?" They said to Him, "The Son of David."
22:43He said to them, "How then does David in the Spirit call Him 'Lord,' saying:"
22:44"The LORD said to my Lord, 'sit at My right hand, until I make Your enemies Your footstool?'"
22:45If David then calls Him 'Lord,' how is He his Son?"
22:46And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor did anyone ask Him any more questions from that day on.
