14:1At that time Herod the tetrarch heard about the fame of Jesus,At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,
14:2and said to his servants, "This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works display themselves in him."And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.
14:3Because, Herod had laid hold of John and bound him, and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife. For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife.
14:4Because, John said to him, "It is not lawful for you to have her."For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.
14:5And when he wanted to put him to death, he feared the crowds, because, they considered him to be a prophet. And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.
14:6But when Herod's birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod. But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.
14:7So he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask.Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.
14:8So she being instructed beforehand by her mother said, "Give me John the Baptist's head here on a platter."And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.
14:9And the king was grieved: nevertheless because of the oath's sake and those who sat with him at the table, he commanded it to be given to her.And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.
14:10So he sent, and beheaded John in the prison. And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.
14:11And his head was brought on a platter, and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.
14:12Then his disciples came, and took away the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus. And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.
14:13When Jesus heard this, He departed from there by boat into a deserted place by Himself. But when the crowds heard of it, they followed Him on foot from the cities. When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.
14:14And Jesus went out and saw a large crowd; and was moved with compassion for them and He healed their sick. And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.
14:15Now when it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, "This is a desert place, and the hour is already late. Send the crowds away, that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves."And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.
14:16But Jesus said to them, "They do not need to leave. You give them something to eat."But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.
14:17And they said to Him, "We have only five loaves, and two fish with us."And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.
14:18He said, "Bring them here to Me."He said, Bring them hither to me.
14:19Then He commanded the crowds to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke, and gave the loaves to His disciples; and the disciples to the crowds. And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
14:20So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.
14:21Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children. And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.
14:22And immediately Jesus made His disciples to get into a boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the crowds away. And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
14:23And when He had sent the crowds away, He went up on a mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was there alone. And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.
14:24But the boat was now in the midst of the sea, tossed by the waves, because the wind was contrary. But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.
14:25Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
14:26And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, "It is a spirit!" And they shouted out through fear. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
14:27But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, "Be cheerful! It is Me; do not be afraid."But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
14:28And Peter replied to Him and said, "Lord, if it is You, tell me to come to You on the water."And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
14:29And He said, "Come." And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
14:30But when he saw the wind was strong, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he shouted out, saying, "Lord, save me!"But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
14:31And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand, and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?"And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
14:32And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
14:33Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, "Truly You are the Son of God."Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.
14:34And when they had crossed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret. And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.
14:35And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent out into all that surrounding region, and brought to Him all who were sick,And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;
14:36and begged Him that they might only touch the edge of His clothes. And as many as touched it were made perfectly well. And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.
