6:1Then He went out from there and came into His own country, and His disciples followed Him.And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.
6:2And when the Sabbath day had come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, "Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that even such mighty works are performed by His hands? And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?
6:3Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and the brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?" So they were offended at Him.Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.
6:4But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house."But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.
6:5Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.
6:6And He marveled because of their unbelief. Then He went around about the villages teaching. And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.
6:7And He called the twelve to Himself, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits.And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;
6:8And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey except only a staff, no bag, no bread, no money in their money belts; And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse:
6:9but to wear sandals, and not put on two coats. But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.
6:10He also said to them, "In whatever place you enter into a house, stay there until you depart from that place."And he said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place.
6:11And whoever will not receive you nor hear you, when you depart from there, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Truly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!"And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
6:12So they went out, and preached that people should repent. And they went out, and preached that men should repent.
6:13And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed them. And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.
6:14Now King Herod heard of Him, because His name had become well known. And he said, "That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore these mighty works are at work in him."And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.
6:15Others said, "It is Elijah." And others said, "It is a prophet, or like one of the prophets."Others said, That it is Elias. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.
6:16But when Herod heard of it, he said, "This is John, whom I beheaded; he has risen from the dead."But when Herod heard thereof, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.
6:17Because, Herod himself had sent out and laid hold of John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife; because he had married her.For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife: for he had married her.
6:18Because John had said to Herod, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife."For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.
6:19Therefore Herodias had this disagreement with him, and wanted to kill him, but she could not; Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:
6:20because, Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and protected him. And when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly. For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.
6:21Then when a convenient day came that Herod on his birthday gave a feast for his nobles, high officers, and chief men of Galilee.And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee;
6:22And when Herodias' daughter herself came in and danced, and pleased Herod and those who sat with him, the king said to the girl, "Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you."And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.
6:23He also swore to her, "Whatever you will ask me, I will give it to you, up to half of my kingdom."And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.
6:24So she went out, and said to her mother, "What should I ask?" And she said, "The head of John the Baptist!"And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.
6:25And swiftly she came in immediately to the king and asked, saying, "I want you to give me the head of John the Baptist on a platter at once."And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.
6:26And the king was exceedingly sorry; yet because of his oath and because of those who sat with him, he did not want to refuse her.And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her.
6:27So immediately the king sent an executioner and commanded his head to be brought. And he went and beheaded him in the prison,And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison,
6:28brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother. And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother.
6:29And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took away his corpse and laid it in a tomb. And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.
6:30Then the apostles gathered together to Jesus and told Him everything, both what they had done and what they had taught. And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.
6:31And He said to them, "Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while." Because, there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
6:32So they departed by boat to a deserted place privately. And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.
6:33But the crowd saw them departing. And many knew Him and ran there on foot from all the cities, overtook them, and came together to Him.And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him.
6:34And Jesus, when He came out, saw a large crowd and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things. And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.
6:35And when the day was now almost over, His disciples came to Him and said, "This is a deserted place, and the time has now passed away. And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed:
6:36Send them away, that they may go into the surrounding country and into the villages and buy themselves bread; because, they have nothing to eat."Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.
6:37He replied and said to them, "You give them something to eat." And they said to Him, "Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat?"He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat?
6:38He said to them, "How many loaves do you have? Go and see." And when they knew they said, "Five, and two fish."He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.
6:39Then He commanded them to make everyone sit down in groups on the green grass. And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.
6:40So they sat down in ranks, in hundreds and in fifties. And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.
6:41And when He had taken the five loaves and the two fish, He looked up to heaven, blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and the two fish He divided among them all.And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.
6:42So they all ate and were filled. And they did all eat, and were filled.
6:43And they took up twelve baskets full of fragments and of the fish. And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.
6:44Now those who had eaten the loaves were about five thousand men.And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.
6:45And immediately He made His disciples get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while He sent the people away. And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people.
6:46And when He had sent them away, He departed to a mountain to pray. And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.
6:47Now when evening came, the boat was in the midst of the sea; and He was alone on the land. And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land.
6:48Then He saw them straining at rowing, because the wind was against them. Now about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea, and would have passed them by.And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.
6:49And when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed it was a spirit, and shouted out;But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out:
6:50because they all saw Him and were troubled. But immediately He talked with them and said to them, "Be of good cheer! It is Me; do not be afraid."For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.
6:51Then He went up into the boat to them, and the wind ceased. And they were greatly amazed in themselves beyond measure, and marveled. And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.
6:52Because, they did not consider the miracle of the loaves, because their heart was hardened. For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.
6:53And when they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret and drew to the shore. And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore.
6:54And when they came out of the boat, immediately the people recognized Him,And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him,
6:55ran through that entire surrounding region, and began to carry about on beds those who were sick to wherever they heard He was.And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.
6:56And wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and begged Him that they might just touch the edge of His clothes. And as many as touched Him were made well. And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.
